Biography
Michel Beaudry was educated in philosophy and
sociology and spent his professional career as a computer systems analyst
at the National Institute of Scientific Research (Urban Planning) in
Montréal. As director of computer and methodology services he was
responsible for managing computer systems at the Institute from 1972 on
and acted as a statistics consultant on research projects in For more than 20 years he has maintained a
studio in Val-David, Québec during which time he has provided invaluable
technical support for Bonnie Baxter¹s various art projects. As Baxter¹s
projects become increasingly multidisciplinary his assistance as a highly
skilled metalworker, computer technician, and electronics expert has
become invaluable and indispensable. Michel Beaudry is currently devoting himself to
a full time second career as a sculptor. Working primarily with steel and
aluminum, often incorporating found objects, wood and bark, he marries
unlikely elements into a coherent collage of modern technology and natural
forms. Years spent working with computers and the controlled chaos of
urban infrastructure have led him to a personal artistic aesthetic that
speaks to Thoreau-like philosophical ideal of self-reliance, harmony
between disparate elements, and conservation which, rather than breaking
nature down, would allow us to live in peaceable accord with our natural
surroundings. His slightly-surreal creations suggest a world of inverse
values in which, rather than our incorporating nature, nature, instead,
incorporates us.
